While Hungary is blessed with a broad palette of indigenous white grape varieties, there are much slimmer pickings when it comes to black (red) grapes, although Kadarka and Kékfrankos are capable of providing plenty of pleasure to the palate. These two grapes were the subject of Borjour’s Kékfrankos and Kadarka tasting held at Hotel Nemzeti Budapest MGallery by Sofitel, on October 16.

Sausage Festival In Budapest, 13 - 15 October

This annual festival featuring 250 types of spiced up meat will be held at the Hungarian Railway Museum this year. As well as lots of porky specials available along several 'Sausage Streets', there will be family programs, folklore shows, 'nostalgic music programs' and dance, plus apparently presentations of enormous sausages, during this three day special Hungarian gastro event.

CNN is to air the Budapest episode of world-famous US celebrity chef, author and television personality Anthony Bourdain’s food & travel show “Parts Unknown”. According to the programme’s trailer, the celebrity chef is a huge fan of all things available at a traditional Hungarian street food shop and the Roma singer Bangó Margit, whom he visited in the capital.
